The film follows the stories of how they were forced out, and their extraordinary fight to overturn the ban on homosexuality in the military.

Two months after Forced Out was broadcast, the Prime Minister delivered the first ever official government apology for the historic treatment of LGBT+ veterans in the House of Commons.

The film was nominated in the Specialist Factual category at the BAFTA TV Awards 2024, was shortlisted for Best Single Documentary at the Grierson Awards 2024, and won Best Specialist Factual Programme at the Broadcast Digital Awards 2024 in which judges described it as ‘exceptionally moving’, ‘beautifully told, with ‘intimate, incredible first-hand testimony’.
